Does anyone remember the barn fires at the H.S field?I was very young but I think it took place the night before the Seaford -Wantagh football games.I cannot recall the exact year this tradition ended but it's ashame that it did.

I remember that. My older brother Peter graduated in '65 and I remember him bringing me to the homecoming where they did that. The guys would throw effiges into the fire. I threw Elvis records in. I was only 9 years old so it must have been 1964.

It WAS just before the Seaford-Wantagh football game. There was also a semi-formal called the Mace-Tomahawk Dance as part of the whole rivaly between the two schools. If I remember correctly, the location of the dance was alternated between the two schools, every other year. There is a "Mace-Tomahawk Dance" discussion site where you might get more detailed information. They always burned an effigy of a Wantagh football player as part of the bonfire.
