:It has taken me a while, but now that I've read what I think is every entry on this web site [including all 200-plus pages of the guest register - I am flabbergasted that no one has mentioned the Mace-Tomahawk Dance. Was it discontinued after 1963? The rivalry between Seaford and Wantagh was intense in the late 50's and early 60's, and one of the highlights [besides the football game] was that dance. I started going as early as 7th grade because of my "romantic" interest in a Wantagh student [Harriet Loomis]. We went to four of them in a row. Our two schools took turns hosting the dance and being the home team. But the greatest of bragging rights was having the actual mace and tomahawk in our trophy case for the entire year after a Viking victory. - Warren Davies [Warren@SaturnAtl.com]

Went to one in 1960, but then moved to Bellmore. We used to wear ourselves out doing the "slop", the twist and the Bristol Stomp.

Those were the days. Guys could actually learn and dance the "fast Dances" and they were fun to do.

I remember going to a couple of them in the 60's. It was almost like going to a prom. Girls wore formals. Guys wore tuxes or suits. Corsages were common. Lots of pictures! I think we took turns having the dance in each other's gym no matter who won the game the year before. I just can't remember whether the dance was before or after the game. Anyone remember?

i asked someone about it the other day and they said, "The WHAT Dance"? I don't think they have it any more. Does Seaford still play Wantagh in football.

The dance was held after the game but the parade was before.

I only went to one dance ( but went to ALL the games ). What I liked about it was that it was in the Fall - long before the proms. It also gave some of the underclassmen, who might not have had the opportunity to go to a Jr. or Sr. prom, the chance to go to a really nice event.

The dance was held on the night of the game at opposite schools each year. But the best part of the Mace-Tomahawk weekends were the rumbles at Gorkins drugstore and Hills on the OLD Seamens Neck Road. Half the cars that showed up wereWantagh drop-outs looking for a rumble. Now the bonfire pep rallies...they were the best...when we threw a stuffed Wantagh footballer on the fire....bet they don't have bonfires any more...Sort of the like the end of the class trips after the class of '65 wrecked the place in Liberty NY...but it was great fun!!!
