In the 50's there was always a Halloween parade. It would go down Seaford Ave to Merrick Rd. and end at South Shore Beverage. Prizes for costumes and there was apple-bobbing too. One weird lady on Willoughby Ave. used to give the "Trick-or-Treaters" a box of cereal instead of candy.

there were always lots of parties. we'd bob for apples and there were also apples on a string. all the apples had money in them. trick-or-treating was fun and SAFE. parents never came with us - even after dark. far cry from today.

Here's a twist. Iremember in the very early 1950's that we didn't trick or treat at Halloween at all. We went to parties. I'm not crazy [ I verified this info with my parents first] but I recall that we used to actually trick or treat on Thanksgiving. Anyone else remember that?

Not in Seaford, but I remember my sister Marilyn taking me trick or treating with her on Thanksgiving when we lived in St. Albans. When we moved to Seaford in 1952, it was strictly on Halloween.
