That's Freddie T. in Georgia. I'm 3 miles away from Carol Spostio. And I haven't been back to Seaford in 41 years ! Can't feed the ducks at Tackapausha any more? Then go to Argyle Lake in Babylon. The ducks will love you for it. RE: Merrick Road - What about Ernies and Charlie's candy store? Also - The Locker Room, Shepherd Brothers Market, Lon Wansers, Ivy Barn, Wantagh Corners, King Kullen , Johns Bargain Store, Austin Verity and the old creek and canal where the Seaford-Oyster Bay is today?

I like GA just fine, thank you. The people are nice and the weather is even better. The only thing I miss is the Atlantic Ocean. It's too bad you had to finish school in Houston. They never taught you proper punctuation. They also forgot to tell you about run-on sentences. Where did you learn to skate? Check your spelling.

Settle down! I don't see the reason to "critique" that persons message to you. These message boards are supposed to be enjoyed. Some people that own companies are unable to spell simple words, and do not know what a run on sentence is. Lighten up!

I remember a huge fire at the Ivy Barn. I think it was close to where Willoughby Ave. crossed Merrick Road. Was it across from Wantagh Corners?

Yes, the Ivy Barn did burn down. Now it is a Korean Produce Store and Deli. They have good food there. And yes, it was opposite Wantagh Corners . Wantagh Corners was torn down and is now CVS.

Hi Merrick Rd Fans;
Which shoe store was it that had the thing you walked on and the x-ray'd your feet? You don't see THAT anymore. In 60 and 61 I worked in the Library over mid-island, anybody else remember Mr Robington, running the library from behind a cloud of smoke.

Jim - I think that it was Buster Brown. Thanks for reminding me about the library. It was the only place you could go to get knowledge AND second-hand smoke at the same time. Marilyn and I lived right down Kenora Place from you and Barbara. Glad you're doing well. Stuart's a nice place to live!

I just came across this site. Seaford was my second home from 1961-1976. My Parents owned a business on Merrick Road, it was called Nat's shoe repair, I was raised there as a child until my Dad passed away and my Mom sold the business in 1976. I have such wonderful memories of Merrick Road in Seaford during that time. Actually, I came upon this site by Googling "Powells Hotel" I wanted to find out if there was anything listed on here about that Hotel? I don't remember much of it, but I do remember my Dad taking me there for lunch, they made the best hamburgers and french fries. I have fond memories of many businesses near my Dad's store such as Toyland, Henry's Hardware, The Paint Bucket, Jack from Buster Brown, Palermos Pizza, Vito Maggios beauty parlor, SeaQua 5 and 10 store, Leons auto repair, Cup and Saucer Village, Pette Florist, the pet store that sold records next to Pette Florist, George and Helen's luncheonette, John from the German deli, Paoli's cleaners, RexAll drug store, Seaford bakery, Kay's beauty salon, Pell Jewelers, my Dad's store, Nat's shoe repair, Ernie and Tillie from Ernie's barber shop, Thrifty Drugs and of course Mid Island Department store. If anyone has any other fond memories of the area pleas post them. I have been wanting to go to the Seaford Museum next to the fire department on Southward Ave. to see if there was any information there, but I haven't had a chance. I am so glad I found this site.
