My favorite teacher was Mr. Clavin! I really enjoyed his English Class.
My other teacher was Mr. D'Onofrio. He always made going to Drama Club enjoyable.
Does anyone know what happened to Mr. D'Onofrio?

Dayna,
I went to the reunion and saw Mr. D'Onofrio's picture on the wall outside the main office along with other teachers who were elected teacher of the year. I had him back in the 60's and couldn't believe he really looked the same in the picture as he did back in the 60's. I don't know where he is now.
Perhaps you will hear from one of the teachers who teach at the highschool and remember him. Several of my classmates are teachers there now. I can't believe more people don't leave msgs and talk to each other on this website. It appears they all look at the various pages, however they don't write anything.
I remember Mr. D'Onofrio, He was always so comical and never boring.

Hi Karen!
Thanks for posting back. I'm glad someone reads these messages. You're right people should write in even if it's just 'hi' or 'I'm still around.'
I too went to the reunion and saw the pictures by the main office and that's what got me thinking.
Thanks again for posting.

Sorry to say, I heard Mr. D'Onofrio passed away a while ago. He was a great Math teacher. I still remember him jumping up on the window ledge to demonstrate some principle of Geometry!!
Miss Dal Pan was also a great Math teacher. She would say, "Do you want me to stand on my head and spit wooden nickels??"
I also had Miss Kennedy, also fun. Seaford JHS had some great Math teachers.
Some of this info is available on classmates. com, but they closed a lot of info to non-paying users.

Mr. D'Onofrio was great! I had him for Algebra. Whenever he wanted to illustrate how to balance an equation he would go to the extreme left side of the blackboard, smack both hands on the board and say, "Whatever you do to ONE side of an equation..." [then he would DASH to the other side of the room, smack both hands on the board again and say, "... you have to do to the OTHER side of the equation!!" He had to be one of the most imitated teachers at Seaford.

I saw mr. D"onofrio recently and he would be disappointed to learn that he is dead. He is currently directing a production of Hello Dolly in Babylon

I always thought that Mr. D'Onofrio was one of the funniest teachers around. Lets face it, who else could have the entire class laughing about math? I still remember whenever he taught about angles of inclination, etc., he always got down on the floor as if the person's eyes were at ground level and not 5 to 6 feet above the ground. Glad to hear he's not quite dead. Last I saw him was a long, long time ago. I was attending a wedding at a catering place in the late 70's - early 80's and he was at the wedding next door!
Hey David, how've you been? I can still remember drama club (before Mr. D'Onofrio's involvement) with Ms. "DeQ" (I can't remember how to spell her last name) and Mr. Bongiovi as her assistant. My last year was Annie Get Your Gun and you were the male lead, opposite Fran Schoenfeld. Are you still in touch with anyone from that crowd? Hope all is well.

Not only did we love, admire, appreciate and respect Anthony D'Onofrio, but so did, it appears, his college and alumni association. If you google his first and last name (use Anthony instead of Tony), click to the second page of results, and then click on to the Albany Alumni Association web site, you will see what I mean. It is refreshing to see that he is also respected and honored by those outside Seaford High. His accolades are well deserved. It also appears that I, along with my classmates, had the honor of being in his first Freshman Algebra class in his first year teaching at Seaford. That was the school year of '61-'62 - the freshman year for the class of 1965. If those of you who had him as a teacher in later years thought that he was wired and animated, then you should have seen him that first year. Just out of college and in his first year of teaching, he was full of energy and excitement, and was all over the classroom when he taught and gave those graphic examples that he was so famous for. My hat's off to you Mr. D'Onofrio!! Respectfully and fondly submitted by the class of '65's first foreign exchange student to Louisville Kentucky - Warren Davies

Mr Clavin Rocked. Had a dry sense of humor that many students were offended by if you didn't have a good sense of humor. I thought he was great. He made the class interesting.

Mr D was the best.I could not look at him without laughing and then he would get in your face and ask whats so funny and then I would just lose it.The best story I can remember was back in JHS in1968 Mr D and Mr Conners who was teaching next door climbed out on the roof and began dueling with their pointer sticks. All kidding aside he made you learn math the fun way.

To this day I can picture in my mind's eye - Mr DOnofrio jumping onto the book cases next to the windows, pointing downward with a ruler, explaining the angles of elevation and.....

I was Mr. Clavin's first Karate student. I had him in English, but until he taught me that I who I was in the martial arts, i was content to be a loser. He was my mentor in 9th through 12th grade, and signed my yearbook "good kareteka remember who and what they are." He gave me self esteem and pride. I went to his house (across the street from my old house ) 16 years ago, but he had moved. Does anyone know where he is? David Brener, '77.
